Over the last week I finished a Mary Jane issue, drew a cover for a future issue and polished off the next BFX installment. Yeah, pretty productive. I'm currently starting to breakdown the next MJ issue and working on some great BFX bonuses so look out for all that stuff.

I don't know if you've been watching but Turner Classic movies (ch.46 in Vancouver) has been showing a marathon of Miyazaki movies every Thursday all month. They show each film dubbed, then subbed, all uncut. UNCUT! It's the best way to watch them and kudos to the network for allowing to show them uninterrupted. I just watched the second half of Only Yesterday (Omohide Poro Poro) and was reminiscing myself about things past and present. If you haven't seen it you can follow the above link to a plot summary but, in short, it's a simple tale of about finding self and contemplating past choices made and to be made. I can't praise this movie enough for it's universal voice and nostalgic reflection on what was and what is. I think, most importantly, it turns the general idea of what a film should be or what elements it should possess to work on it's head. It makes it own rules and I appreciate the willingness to stay so pure. There is a beautifully scripted and "acted" ten minute dialogue scene where two characters talk in a car. Just sit there and talk.

Damn, it's good.

Unfortunately, I think this is the final Thursday of the marathon. I wish they'd just put it on repeat all year.

Here's the news clip:

Earlier this month, Turner Classic Movies (sister network of Cartoon Network) started a month-long tribute to the legendary anime director, Hayao Miyazaki, and his company, Studio Ghibli. (They've been airing every Thursday night this month.)

Well, TCM has given CN the rights to the Ghibli movies! The first of the films, Spirited Away, airs on the Fridays block on February 3 at 7PM. There's no scheduled listings yet for the rest of the films, but if Adult Swim (which seems pretty obvious for the darker films like Nausicaa or Princess Mononoke) or Toonami (maybe Laputa) gets any, we'll keep you updated.

No, I don't get Cartoon Network so I won't be able see those airings. I heard a runour that TCM Canada was planning on replaying them in the spring but I have not heard any confirmation on that.

The first film that cartoon network will air is Spirited away. It will air it at 7:30 PM on Saturday, March 18th. The rest will air at the same time on the Saturdays for the next couple weeks. They go in this order.

~Spirited Away - March 18
~Princess Mononoke - March 25
~Castle in the Sky - April 1
~Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind - April 8

I found this info on a reliable Nausicaa fan-site. The only Miyazaki films I've seen in their entirety are "Kiki's Delivery Service" (a long time ago on the Disney channel), "Grave of Fireflies" (free, On Demand), and "Porco Rosso" (Own the DVD), so I'm pretty pumped. WOOT! Let's hope Cartoon Network does'nt edit them.

**hugs his DVR**
